Good Morning . . . and Advancement in Technology

Good morning students – As you can see I'm not there today (I'm working on school business at another location).  You are required to make good use of your time even when I’m not there.  I’ll be online working today so if you have questions email or send me an iGoogle message at janice.lang@bedford.k12.mi.us.   If you finish your project you may begin the blog assignment below.  This blog assignment isn’t to be started until your research project is 100% finished.  I’ll see you on Tuesday.
Advancement in Technology – helps save lives.
Advancements in technology most often come about as people try to solve specific problems.  The problem – millions of babies in 3rd world countries die each year due to being too cold in the first few months of life.  Engineering students around the country were given the task to design a portable incubator that would be low cost to manufacture and low cost to maintain.  Follow the progress.  Select the first link and read the article and watch the video.

  1. I find both these new "inventions" very interesting, but I like the sleeping bag one better, and I think that people might actually use it because it was less expensive, you can transport it easier, and because then the mom's can still hold her baby and be close to it all the time instead of having to go to the hospital.

  2. I think that the bag incubator would be a better invention because they cost a lot less and they can be transferred. You wouldn't have to stay in the hospital for very long either.

  4. These new products are a very innovative way to save new borns. I think the bag incubator is a better idea however, due to the low cost and ease of transportation. The car part incubator is also a great invention although it would be hard to transport it to third world countries.

  5. i like the incubators. both good ideas, but the bag is going to be more efficient if you test it out in the world. It'll cost less and be easier to go around, after all how would someone in a third world country fix carparts anyway???

  6. I think that both of these inventions are are great way to save newborns, but I like the bag incubator better, because it's less expensive and easyer to transport from place to place. And what would happen if the car part incubator broke, I'm very few people would know how to fix it.

  7. In my opinion the sleeping bad incubator would be the better option. They are much cheaper than a car parts incubator and easier to transport and distribute. I think both though could make a huge difference in third world counrties.

  8. These new ideas could be a huge advancement in technology. It really is remarkable to see that so many people are worried about other countries and their life there. I think both will work amazingly as long as they follow through with it.

  9. Both of these ideas are great, but the bag incubator is a better option. They are more affordable and easier to transport. Plus, you wouldnt have to be in the hospital for very long.

  10. I think both of the inventions are really cool and interesting. I do think the bag one would be a better one to use because it is less expensive. The baby can also still be held by the mother and other family members while staying warm. A newborn still needs the comfort and the holding of its mother to do better outside the womb. It is also easier to transport. You would have to stay in the hospital for the incubater. For the bag idea you wouldnt be stuck in one place, you could move around. ASolarek

  11. It is really nice that all of these different colleges and majors are coming together to make environmental-save inventions for the less fortunate. If I had to choose one that would be more effective for the third world countries, I would choose the Embrace Bag. It is cheaper, easier to transport and simple enough for the moms to operate. Both inventions can make a big difference and save many lives.
